  3. What if, I told you that: • I found a University, --not a college—but a University that would give you 72 college credits for your FAA Airframe and Powerplant certificate even if the certificate was issued to you in 1950.

  4. What if, I told you that: • The 72 credit hours would be applied to a 84 credit hour, Associate of Applied Science degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology.

  5. What if, I told you that: • The remaining 12 credit could be taken via the internet either at work or at home.

  6. What if, I told you that: • You can finish the 12 credits (4 courses) and getthe degree in less than a year by taking six credits or two courses per semester.

  7. What if, I told you that: • The cost for the entire course for the four(4), three (3) credit hour courses that will set you back $512.40 • That is not a miss-print. It costs five hundred and twelve dollars and 40 cents for tuition and fees. • Text books are extra.

  8. What if, I told you that: • It gets even better. • The university will give you credit for college level courses that you have taken over the years. • So instead of 4 courses you might only have to take one or two depending on the weight of your transcripts.

  9. What if, I told you that: • The university is the Eastern New Mexico University at Roswell (ENMU-R). • Yeah, that the same town the flying saucer was supposed of crashed back in 47. • Try to get pass the TV and Hollywood UFO-hype and stay with me.

  10. What if, I told you that: • I went to Roswell on my own time and dime and checked it out. • I talked face to face with Jim Primm, Chair of the Aviation Programs. • ENMU-R runs the only Part 147 school in New Mexico. • ENMU-R teaches a Cessna approved. Citation composite repair course.

  11. Why is the school so cheap if the school is so good? • The courses cost less than most schools because the ENMU-R charges out of state students the same $42.70 rate tuition/fee per credit hour rate as it charges a New Mexico resident who lives outside of Roswell campus district.

  12. Why is the school so cheap if the school is so good? • The one restriction to get these rates is the student must only carry 6 credit hours or less per semester.

  13. Do I have to go to New Mexico? • All courses can be taken over the internet. You can go to your graduation ceremony if you want and partake of the pomp and ceremony, but it is not mandatory.

  14. What kind of courses do I have to take? • The maximum number of courses is four (4) 3 credit hour courses! • UNIV 101: Freshman Seminar. • ENG 102: English Composition • COMM 101: Interpersonal Communications • MATH 107: Intermediate Algebra. • Note: Don’t let algebra requirement scare you. If you can do weight and balance you are already doing algebra.

  15. Can I use this 2 year degree towards a 4 year degree? • Yes, ENMU-R is fully accredited University and their credits and degrees are accepted for transfer everywhere.

  16. How many semesters at ENMU-R? • There are two semesters and a summer session. • Spring semester starts in January • Summer sessions starts in June • Fall semester starts in August

  17. How can I make this happen? 5 Steps • Step 1: Get off your rump and pull up the ENMU-R web site on your computer at www.roswell.enmu.edu and check it out for yourself. • You can register on this website. • It take about 5 working days after you register to be enrolled.

  18. How can I make this happen? 5 Steps • Step 2: If you have earned any college credits in the past have the college or university send your official transcript to: ENMU-R Office of Admissions, P.O. Box 6000 Roswell, New Mexico 88202-6000

  19. How can I make this happen? 5 Steps • Step 3: Send a notarized COPY of your FAA Airframe and Powerplant certificate to ENMU-R Office of Admissions. You can mail it or you can FAX it (505-624-7144) • Tell them what degree you have chosen, include your present address (the one on the certificate may be different) and include your mailing address or e-mail. Also include a telephone number where they can reach you.

How can I make this happen? 5 Steps • If you have limited experience in taking on line classes I recommend that you take either the Freshman Seminar or Interpersonal Communications course because the ACCUPLACER test is not required for these courses. • Call the bookstore and order your books at (800) 243-6687 ext. 192.

  21. How can I make this happen? 5 Steps • Step 4:After your application and enrollment paper work is done, you may have to take a test. The name of the test is ACCUPLACER. It is a basic skills test (math, English, and reading).

  22. How can I make this happen? 5 Steps • You can take the ENMU-R practice on-line test a couple of times to get comfortable. You then have to take the test at a local college given by a proctor (there might be a fee).

  23. How can I make this happen? 5 Steps • Step 4. Continued: If the test determines that you need additional help in these areas, then you can take a remedial class or two to get up to college levels of skill. The remedial classes cost the same $42.70 a credit hour as the other courses. • You might not need to take the course if you have 30 college credits which includes some math and English.

  24. How can I make this happen? 5 Steps • Step 5: You must show professional development. This means you must show ENMU-R that your have constantly updated your skills and knowledge of your profession.

  25. How can I make this happen? 5 Steps • Step 5: Continued: For example, getting your IA renewed, taking technical training, participating in the FAA AMT awards program, earning a DME, or a DAR.

  26. Summary: • ENMU-R is limited in the number of Internet students it can enroll. • I am going around the country spreading the news about this opportunity. I have written two articles on ENMU-R. The first, called “What If?” was published in AMT magazine in May/June 2003 issue. The second, called ”College Degrees” in May 2005 (see amtonline.com)

  27. Summary: • Be aware that this is not a give away college degree program like you see advertised on the back of matchbooks or in food stores magazines racks. • You will have to work hard to earn the degree.

  28. Summary: • Perhaps this program might satisfy a long term personal goal or a career enhancement. • If you like what you heard, it will be in you own best interests to investigate this opportunity as soon as you can. • The choice is yours!

  29. Summary: What am I getting out of this? • I am making a old dream of mine come true. • I figure that if more of us mechanics get a college degree, no pilot, no manager, no nobody, is going to call us a “grease monkey” ever again. • The ball is in your court, don’t drop it!
