OBJECTIVES M D M P U N J A B • To increase enrolment, retention and to tone up the learning abilities of the beneficiaries, especially of children belonging to poor sections of the society; • To provide nutritious meal to the school going children to achieve the goal of Healthy mind in Healthy body; • To promote friendship and feelings of common brotherhood among the children belonging to different caste, colour and creed by providing meals to them together.

  25. INVOLVEMENT OF NGO M D M P U N J A B • State -of - the art centralized kitchens have been set up in the district of Ferozepur and Nawanshaher w.e.f. September, 2008. • The Mid-Day-Meal is being provided in 2238 schools covering 234933 students through the NGOs “STRI SHAKTI” from middle of September,2008.

  32. School Health Programme The program is being run with the help of the department of health. Primary schools are being checked twice a year. Upper primary and above schools are being checked once a year. During these checkups, IFA tablets, deworming medicines and skin lotion are being provided to the children.

MEETING OF STATE STEERING CUM MONITORING COMMITTEE • 6th Meeting of Steering cum Monitoring Committee was held on 15-09-2011. • 7th Meeting of Steering cum Monitoring Committee was held on 15-12-2011. • Prior to the above last meeting of Steering cum monitoring committee during 2010-11 was held on 10.02.2011.

GRIEVANCE REDRESSAL SYSTEM • Helpline at Telephone No. 0172-6541673 remains operative 24 hours. • Complaints received are dealt with at the head office, district office or schools immediately. • School heads inform head office directly at telephone no 0172-2600119 if they get any problem regarding Mid-Day-Meal.

  43. GOOD PRACTICES Foodgrains are stored in storage bins which have been purchased out of the sale proceed of used gunny bags. Cooked food and Foodgrains are checked by the Health Department on regular basis. Potability of drinking water is checked from all the schools by the Health Department on regular basis. All children are encouraged to wash there hands before taking meals. SDM’s check Mid-Day-Meal in 5 schools at random every week falling under them.

  44. ISSUE AREAS • Release of funds directly to MDM Society • Funds pertaining to MME should be increased at least to 3.5%. • Salary of Cooks should be increased.

  45. PLAN FOR ENRICHMENT OF SCHEME • During the year 2011-12 in addition to the food weekly sweet dish 'Kheer' has been introduced in all schools. • Districts served by NGO's serve fruit fortnightly in all schools. this shall be implemented in all schools. • Utensils shall be provided to all the children in all the schools for taking meals. • Training to cooks.
