Objectives
  • to select the best performing Rhizobial strain for faba bean production in western Amhara,
  • to determine optimum rate of P fertilizer for faba bean production in western Amhara.
materials and methods
Materials and Methods
  • Treatments: 13 treatments (4 P rate combined with 3 Rhizobium strains with control treatment without inoculant and P)
    • 4 P rates ( 0,23, 46 & 69 kgha-1 P2O5) as TSP (0-46-0) side-banded with the seed,
    • 3 strains R. leguminosarumbv.viciae:
      • Inoculant 1
      • Inoculant 2
      • Inoculant 3
    • 18 kgha-1 N will be used as a starter for all plots,
    • Recommended lime rates for each district will be applied,
    • Source of inoculants:
      • National soil lab.,
      • Holeta ARC,
      • Menagesha Biotech PLC

    • 3 replications
    • 2 sets of experiments (with & without lime)
  • Spacing:
    • 2m between rep. & 1m between plots,
    • 2.4m wide * 3m long plot size,

    • 6 rows gross & 4 rows harvestable,
  • Seed rate (200kg/ha) & other practices as recommended

      • Inoculant 2 (CP EAL 004)

      • Hawasa university,
      • Holeta ARC,
      • National soil lab.
  • 18 kgha-1 N as a starter for all plots,
