  3. Holy, Holy, Holy. A passage from the Gospel according to Saint Luke (4:38-41), may his blessings be upon us all. Amen.

  4. Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon. Now Simon's mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her. So He bent over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up at once and began to wait on them. When the sun was setting, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying His hands on each one, He healed them. Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, ‘‘You are the Son of God!'' But He rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew He was the Christ.

Nayrouz = Coptic New Year Who can tell me what the word MARTYR means? • It describes a person who gave up their life and endured a lot of pain for the name of Jesus. • Which means that they maintained their faith and declared their love for Jesus even in front of strong people who wanted to hurt them for it.

Something that all of us ask for ALL the time without realizing it. What do you think this thing is? Why would they be ok with being hurt so much and giving up things that they really like?

Well, the Church put them as examples for us in the beginning of the year to remind us that it is He who has all that we need and look for. The martyrs are so consumed with God’s love, that they forget about all of the other things. You can say that they left the earthly and kept their hearts in heaven. 
