  1. TCAP Review By: Brooke kreger

  2. Interdependence • All living things need energy to carry out basic functions. • An organism that makes its own food is called a producer. Ex: green plants , algae • Organisms that eat plants or other organisms to obtain energy are called consumers. • There are all different types of consumers. • Such as…..

  3. interdependence • Herbivores- Consumers that mainly eat plants. • Here are some examples of herbivores:

  4. Interdependence • Carnivore- An animal that eats mainly other animals. • Here are some examples:

  5. Interdependence • An animal that gets energy by eating both plants and animals. • Here are some examples of an omnivore

  6. Interdependence • Scavengers- Feed off of dead animals. • Here are some examples of a scavenger:

  7. Interdependence • Decomposers- Break down and feed on dead organisms and waste to obtain energy. • Here are some examples:

  8. Interdependence • The pathway in which organisms get food is called a food chain. • The arrows in a food chain represents the direction of energy flow.

  9. Interdependence • A food web is a diagram of several food chains connected together.

  10. Atmosphere

  11. Atmosphere • Radiation- The movement of energy , such as heat , across an open space. • Ex: Energy from the sun heats the beaches sand. • Heat moves from the sun to the air by radiation.

  12. Atmosphere • Convection –The movement of heat in a liquid or gas by way of currents. • Convection is the main way that heat moves through earths atmosphere. • Ex: when a gas such as air gets warmer , it’s particles move faster and spread farther a part. The air becomes less-dense.

  13. Atmosphere • A convection current is the movement of a gas or liquid in a looped path. • Moving air is wind. Convection in the atmosphere causes all Earth’s winds and weather. • Convection currents can produce winds that blow across thousands of kilometers of Earths surface.

  14. Atmosphere • If you are sitting on the beach during the day , you will probably feel cool air flowing over the land from the ocean. The hot sand will warm this cool ocean air , which will rise and make room for more air to move in off the ocean . This moving air is called a sea breeze. • A sea breeze is a wind that moves from the sea to the land.

  15. Ocean currents

  16. Ocean currents • An ocean current is a body of water that flows through the oceans. • There are 2 main kinds of ocean currents. • Such as…..

  17. Ocean currents • Surface currents flow across the ocean surface to a depth of a few hundred meters. • Deep currents flow near or at the ocean floor , up to thousands of meters below the waters surface.

  18. Ocean currents • Winds are the main cause of surface currents. Global winds move across the surface of the ocean. They tend to drag water along in the same direction as the wind is blowing . The daily rotation of Earth on it’s axis also affects the direction in which surface currents flow. They circulate warm and cool water.

  19. Ocean currents • When a warm and cold surface currents meet and mix , they cause deep currents in the ocean. • As colder air is denser than warmer air , colder water is also denser than warmer water. Cold , dense , water moves deep down in the ocean near the Earth’s poles. At the same time , it moves away from the poles toward the equator.
