  3. --Next to each number, write down what you think the underlined word means. You should write the following: “I think that ______ means ______.” 1.) Because the teacher seemed to condone Mark’s cheating, everyone else started cheating on their vocabulary quizzes.

  4. 2.) I thought Rose’s shoes were beautiful, but, when she told me how much they cost, I knew they were too exorbitant for my budget.

  5. 3.) The exhausted mother didn’t even have the energy to see what was going on when she heard the clamor that her children were making in the living room.
