HANGUL (Letters) • Consonants (닿소리) and vowels (홑소리): • 14consonants: ㄱ (g), ㄴ (n), ㄷ (d), ㄹ (l/r), ㅁ (m), ㅂ (b), ㅅ (s), ㅇ (-/ng), ㅈ (j), ㅊ (ch), ㅋ (k), ㅌ (t), ㅍ (p), ㅎ (h) • 10 vowels: ㅏ (a), ㅑ (ya), ㅓ (eo), ㅕ (yeo), ㅗ (o), ㅛ (yo), ㅜ (u), ㅠ (yu), ㅡ (eu), ㅣ(i) • ㅑ, ㅕ, ㅛ, and ㅠ are iotized ones of ㅏ, ㅓ, ㅗ, and ㅜ, respectively • 5 double consonants: ㄲ, ㄸ, ㅃ, ㅆ, ㅉ • 11 consonant clusters: ㄳ, ㄵ, ㄶ, ㄺ,ㄻ, ㄼ,ㄽ,ㄾ, ㄿ, ㅀ,ㅄ • 11 diphthongs: ㅐ, ㅒ, ㅔ,ㅖ,ㅘ, ㅙ,ㅚ,ㅝ,ㅞ, ㅟ,ㅢ • Morpho-Syllabic Blocks: • The initial: consonants or double consonants • The medial: vowels (simple, combined (inlcuding diphthongs), iotized) • The final: consonants, double consonants, clustered consonants.
