  2. Research Committee is an academic institution for the management of research and all related activities within the University

  3. Research Committee • was established in 1981 • is a university unit legally responsible for: • the management of research and service supply projects • the realization of the research policy • applies procedures of Total Quality Management concerning all aspects of its operation

  4. The mission The Research Committee serves all specific needs of the research activities produced within and by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki: - Synergy between research and teaching - Design and implementation of research policies - Allocation and management of external funding

  5. Legal Framework • The committee is an elected body of the University • Chairman: One of the three Vice Rectors of the university • Plenary Session: Representatives of all university departments • Seven-Member Administrative Board: Executive body that consists of the chairman and 6 elected members of the plenary session

  6. Legal Framework Seven-Member Management Board: The main activities of the board include the application and supervision of management and operational regulations for the research projects as well as the implementation of the research policy of the institution.

  7. Staff - Facilities • Research Committee Secretariat • Employs 80 persons • Operates in offices located in a new building in the University Campus called “Research Outcome Dissemination Centre ” • Has been accredited with ISO 9001:2000 (November 2002)

Services • informing the university community about new calls for proposals • providing courses and assistance in writing proposals • investigating new financial opportunities • management of research projects • promoting Technology Transfer Activities (patent preparation, publicity, contacts with private sector)

Activities - Funding Research Committee actions also include: Scholarships (doctoral –postdoctoral students) Basic research projects Support of scientific conferences Establishment of Thematic Research Networks Accreditation of research laboratories - groups (ISO 17025 / ISO 9001) Funding support of the university’s communication networks Funding the procurement and usage license of scientific software

Research Areas RTD Projects are carried out in the scientific areas of: environment informatics telecommunications technologies for industry transport biotechnology biomedicine and health agriculture, forestry and fisheries education and languages history and archaeology social and economic sciences

Projects During the last 3-years: Implementation of over 3.500 RTD projects Collaboration with 1.800 partners Participation of: 1.340 members of the teaching and research staff (more than 50% of AUTH faculty members ) 8.000 external associates a large number of under/postgraduate students Overall budget up to 150 million euros Average annual turnover 50 million euros
