    1. 11.5 Areas of Circles and Sectors

    2. 11.5 Area of Circles and Sectors Area of a Circle is? The circumference of the circle is each little semicircle or pr=1/2 circumference. r is the radius of the circle. When putting all the pieces together of the circle you get this picture. A?=(pr)r=pr2 A circle is 360o around.

    3. Lets find out the area of pizza 1 piece that I am going to eat! d:p) I have a pizza in 6 equally cut pizzas w/diameter=12in. What is the area of just 1 of those pieces? Hint, what is the arc measure of 1 piece of pizza? Does this tell us what ratio of the whole pizza that we are going to eat? What would be your formula for the area of that 1 piece of pizza?

    4. Area of a sector So the arc length of the 1 piece is 60o. The ratio of the whole pizza is 60/360 or 1/6th. 1/6th of the area of the whole pizza. So. 1/6pr2 =1/6p62 =36/6p =6p =18.85inches2 How many calories is that if 1 square inch of pizza has 20 calories?

    5. Find the area of the shaded piece of pizza.

    6. Find the area of the piece of pizza formed by points L, R and M.

    8. Money ball question. Open book to Page 693 Example 5 You are cutting the front face of a clock out of wood as shown in the diagram. What is the area of the front of the case? Area=Area of rectangle+ Area of sector-Area of circle.

    9. Homework 11.5 Page 695 1, 3,-9, 11-27 odd, 28, 59-61 Extra credit problem. 5 points. Due by the day of the test. If you have 2 circles A and B that intersect at 2 points and the distance between the centers is 10. What is the area of the intersecting region?
