  1. Moi University was established in 1984 as the second public university in Kenya. Over the past twenty-five years, the university has witnessed phenomenal growth and development in the number of students, staff, academic programmes and expansion in facilities MISSION: To preserve, create, and disseminate knowledge, conserve and develop scientific, technological and cultural heritage through quality teaching and research; to create conducive work and learning environment; and to work with stakeholders for the betterment of society.

  2. OBJECTIVES OF THE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT • The objectives of the school are: • To provide professional foundation in business and services management by disseminating knowledge and skills to meet career requirements of managers in the private and public sectors. • To contribute to national and international economic growth and development by offering quality business and services management training and outreach. • To promote co-operation and awareness between academia and the general business community. • To undertake and promote basic and applied research and the development of training tools and packages in business, tourism and related fields. • To provide total quality training by incorporating quality assurance in all programmes and activities of the school. • To establish and maintain a business information system data bank for teaching, consultancy and other public information purposes. • To co-operate and establish linkages with the leading business schools world-wide with a view to ensuring highest academic standards.

  3. The school meets the challenge of producing quality graduates by being at the cutting edge of the most current education and training methods in the world of business. These methods include: problem based learning, modular teaching approach, group discussion methods, teamwork learning, programming and simulation methods. • industrial attachment is emphasised because it facilitates the production of graduates that are academically qualified and practically oriented. • The school is highly competitive and attracts excellent students from across Kenya and internationally. Its academic staff and students reflect a broad cross-section of disciplines and backgrounds. • provides an environment in which employed and experienced students infuse the learning process at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels with a stimulating balance between theory and practice.

Courses and programmes • The School of Business and Management is committed to producing graduates who are both agents and managers of change • Graduates of the programme are expected to have a critical perspective and understanding of the potentials and challenges of the globalized economic environment which will enable them to effectively participate in the business world of the 21st century and beyond • The school is unique because it is among the first in Africa to have business and tourism studies in an integrated framework • The school co-operates with other schools, institutes, and faculties of Moi University and others world-wide with whom it shares complementary mission and vision. Courses offered by these institutions are an integral part of course components of the following programmes: • Bachelor of Business Management (BBM) • Bachelor of Tourism Management (BTM) • Bachelor of Travel and Tour Operations Management (BTTM) • Bachelor of Hotel and Hospitality Management (BHM)

  5. The school also provides a number of postgraduate courses including Masters and PhD programmes. PhD candidates are encouraged to contact us for further information including an overview of the proposed thesis including a brief literature review.
