  2. You can’t guarantee confidentiality • Students need to be informed that if what they have to report relates to a safety concern at school, or child abuse, you may have to report the information to the administrator. • If the student chooses not to give you the information at that point, it is their choice, but you can’t make promises to keep their name or information confidential.

  3. School Records • If you have access to school records, you can not discuss them or disclose them unless you follow proper procedures. • Parents of a child have a right to access their student’s records.

  4. Non-Custodial parents have the same rights to access student records as custodial parents (unless there is a court order prohibiting). • Student’s records shouldn’t be discussed with anyone out side of the school setting.

  5. Family Privacy Act • Questions to students that are intended to illicit information about their family’s political views, mental health, sexual behavior of family members, family members engaging in illegal conduct, or anything relating to the religious beliefs of the family are prohibited.

  6. For more information regarding confidentiality, school records and Family Education and Privacy Act refer to Uintah School District Policies: • 007.0305 – Education Records Access • 007.0310 – Student and Family Privacy
