  5. TECHNIQUES TO HELP YOU PREPARE FOR THE SATSANG EXAM

  6. You will need the following skills: • Develop and maintain 100% concentration • Determination to pass • Hard work + Regular reading • Self discipline and the need for you to give your best at all times

  7. When should you begin • your revision? • For some – it starts 1 week before the exam day. • 2. For most – it starts the day you fill in your entry form • 3. For the ideal – it starts as soon as the previous exam is over.

  8. How to prepare for revision:1. Make sure that you have the correct books for the Satsang Exam you are giving: Prarambh – Ghanshyam Charitra, Yogiji Maharaj Kishore Satsang Prarambh Pravesh – Neelkanth Charitra Shastriji Maharaj Kishore Satsang Prarambh Satsang Reader – Part 1 Parichay-Sahajanand Charitra, Bhagatji Maharaj, Kishore Satsang Parichay, Satsang Reader – Part 2

  9. Set 10 min in the afternoon Set 15 min in the morning Set 45 min in the evening 2. Prepare a timetable for the next 4 weeks or more Sun Mon Tue Wed Thurs Fri Sat

  10. 3.Planning your revision: • Prepare a revision plan before • the Exam • Be realistic as to how much • you can do in any one day or week • 3. An unrealistic program will • not be of any help to you in • preparing for the exams • 4. Make a time-table and stick • to it as much as possible

  11. 4. Managing your Book(s) 1. Balance your time between your book(s) 2. Spread your effort so all the things are covered and nothing is left out 3. Take a break after every 35minutes of revision4. Go through chapters you feel at ease with and concentrate on things you find difficult “You must stick to your timetable”

  12. How to make good revision notes: 1. When reading – always make sure you have a pen to use to underline/highlight important info Places, Objects, Names, Dates, etc (POND) 2. Summarise the notes on a sheet of A4 – so you can use them for quick revision before the exam3. Use spider or bubble diagrams4. Review past exam questions and note important notes

The key to doing well is to: • Remember your info. and prasangs • Make good notes • Apply your knowledge • Do as many past paper questions as you can • To memorise you may:- • Read and write from memory • Read and say in your mind • Read and say aloud • Read and repeat in front of your Family/friends Don’t worry about all the dates – learn the main ones.

  14. 10 reasons why some students fail? • They haven’t planned how to study • They don’t concentrate when studying • They waste time doing unimportant things • They don’t learn things properly • They don’t fully understandwhat they read • They don’t ask for help when they don’t understand

They don’t obtain and attempt past Satsang Exam papers which would give them an idea of the layout of the exam and style of the questions • They spend too much valuable time watching TV, playing PCgames or getting engaged in other unnecessary activities • Only revise things they are comfortable with • They don’t try to increase their understanding or memory of difficult things to get higher marks • They don’t attend on the day of exam

  16. Exam Preparation- Month Before

  17. Begin each session reading the books andrevise in your mind the most important points. Then you have to go through the past Satsang Exam papers and test yourself.

  18. Practice things with friends or ask a family member to test you. Remember: Don’t try and study where there are things that can disturb you

  20. “It’s going to be easy…” “I will pass…” “I’m going to get over 80%…” Always think positive (as Dr. Swami would say: “try to do the BEST”

  21. Go through a past Satsang Exam paper under strict exam conditions After completing the exam paper, mark it using the textbook.

  22. Revise your mistakes very carefully and commit to memory the correct answers “Preparation is the key to success”

  24. Exam Preparation-Night Before • 1. Go to sleep at your normal time • (Latest by 10pm) • 2. Pray to Maharaj and Swami • in bed & puja to help you • tomorrow in the exam • 3. Don’t stay up revising • until late at night

  25. Pray to Maharaj and Swami to help you tomorrow in the exam “SUCCESS IS WHEN HARDWORK AND PRAYERS COME TOGETHER”

  26. “It’s going to be easy…” “I’m going to get over 85%…” “I will pass…” AGAIN Always think positive

  27. Don’t wake up late and then rush Plan to be there 30minutes before the start of the exam(for some: at least plan to be there)

  28. EXAM TECHNIQUES DURING THE EXAM

  29. Remember !!! Don’t try and copy anyone. This Satsang Exam is to see how much you know, not your friends. (BAPA is watching!) - Remember - “To copy is like cheating God.” Jina Bhagat

  30. In the exam • 1. Pray to Maharaj and Swami before starting • Read the questions carefully before you • start answering the questions • 3. Do the easy questions first • 4. If you cannot answer a question, • go to the next one • 5. Always make sure you write neatly • 6. Manage your time carefully so you answer • all the questions in the paper

  31. Put a mark of some sort next to incomplete questions, And attempt them at the end If you left any questions out during the exam, do not leave them unanswered; attempt them, if need be by a guess So don’t leave ANY question unanswered. It might be possible to gain a mark with a guess

  32. If you require any help or extra paper, don’t look around at others. Just raise a hand and ask the exam supervisors. When writing essays, make sure you fill almost all the space provided using neat handwriting

  33. You will have plenty of time, so think carefully before answering the question. On completion, check and double check that you have answered the questions correctly

  35. Before handing in your answer sheet(s), make sure you have filled in the details asked for on the front cover. (don’t forget your name) If you are not sure about anything, ask the exam supervisors for help. (not answers) Also make sure all the sheets you have used are stapled together before you leave the exam hall

Make sure you know the timings for your Exam: - Bal Satsang Part 1 – One Paper – 2 hours – 100marks - Bal Satsang Part 2 – One Paper – 2 hours – 100 marks - Prarambh – One Paper – 3 hours – 100 marks - Pravesh – Paper 1 – Neelkanth Charitra + Satsang Reader Paper 2 – Kishore Satsang Pravesh + Shastriji Maharaj 2h15m 75 marks 2h15m 75 marks (See handout for further details)
