  1. CODOMINANCE VACHS BIOLOGY

  2. DO NOW: FIRST TWO MINUTES, SILENTLY. 1. GATHER MATERIALS: • Notepacket • Binder 2. WRITE DOWN HOMEWORK: Advanced Punnet Practice 3. TAKE OUT HOMEWORK: Sex-Linked Traits & PLAN practice 2:00 1:58 1:57 1:56 1:55 1:54 1:53 1:52 1:51 1:50 1:49 1:48 1:47 1:45 1:32 1:44 1:43 1:42 1:41 1:40 1:39 1:38 1:37 1:36 1:35 1:34 1:33 1:46 1:31 1:29 End 1:28 1:27 1:26 1:25 1:24 1:23 1:22 1:21 1:20 1:19 1:18 1:17 1:16 1:15 1:14 1:13 1:12 1:11 1:10 1:09 1:08 1:07 1:06 1:05 1:04 1:03 1:02 1:30 0:59 0:58 1:00 0:57 0:56 0:55 0:54 0:53 0:52 0:51 0:50 0:49 0:48 0:47 0:46 0:44 0:31 0:43 0:42 0:41 0:40 0:39 0:38 0:37 0:36 0:35 0:34 0:33 0:32 1:59 0:45 2:00 0:30 0:28 0:27 0:26 0:25 0:24 0:23 0:22 0:21 0:20 0:19 0:18 0:17 0:16 0:15 0:14 0:13 0:12 0:11 0:10 0:09 0:08 0:07 0:06 0:05 0:04 0:03 0:02 0:01 0:29 1:01

  3. DO NOW: Answer questions on packet PUNNET PRACTICE! • Colorblindness is SEX-LINKED and RECESSIVE. If a colorblind male has a child with a colorblind woman, what percentage of their children will be male and colorblind? • Human skin color is INCOMPLETELY DOMINANT. If a light skinned parent (ss) had a child with a dark skinned parent, what can you predict the heterozygous phenotype might be?

  4. SO FAR WE’VE LEARNED ABOUT… COMPLETE DOMINANCE SEX-LINKED TRAITS INCOMPLETE DOMINANCE

  5. 1. Codominance - Both traits or alleles share the dominance - Both traits are expressed

  6. Think: Co-champions share a championship. The same is true of codominance. Codominant traits are both dominant so both traits are present.

  7. Blood Type is a Codominant Trait There are four types of blood that people have. What are they? Type B Type A Type O Type AB

  8. Blood Cell Structure Draw these diagrams Type A Type B Type O Type AB

  9. Type A Type B Type O Type AB What do you notice about the anitgens (surface proteins) of the different blood types?

  10. Each antigen or surface protein is unique and they do not mix. This is the reason only certain blood types can donated or accepted by other blood types.

  11. Blood type also follows the rules of codominance. Type A and B are codominant together and both are completely dominant to Type O. 5. FILL IN CHART

  12. In blood type A and B are codominant to O. If a heterozygous type B mother mates with a homozygous type A father, what % of offspring will have type O blood? 2) In blood type A and B are codominant to O. If a type O mother mates with a homozygous type B father, what % of offspring will have type B blood? PROBLEMS TO solve: Try theSE on YouR OWN: QUIETLY, STAY SEATED.

  13. NEW VOCAB WORD FOR OUR GLOSSARY: TRANSFUSION: When someone takes the blood of another person.

  14. BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS ACTIVITY C: “restaurant” voices H: Reference your instructions, ask your team mates, then ask me! A: You will be doing a blood transfusion simulation lab in which you will determine which blood types are safe for transfusions! M: walking to retrieve materials, sitting down while working. P: Performing the lab activity and helping your partners. S: Determining a hypothesis and collecting evidence to support or disprove it! Filling out all of the lab questions.

  15. PUNNET PRACTICE: GRAPHIC ORGANIZER!

  16. First box:COMPLETE DOMINANCE: One dominant allele MASKS (covers up) the other. EXAMPLE: Brown fur is dominant, white is recessive. Offspring are mostly brown, with some white.

  17. INCOMPLETE DOMINANCE Two traits mix together. Example: Crossing one red flower and one white flower willproduce pink offspring.

  18. CODOMINANCE Both traits are expressed. Example: The AB blood type is a combination of both A and B.

  19. SEX-LINKED TRAITS Traits are linked to the X-chromosome.

  20. QUIZ NEXT CLASS! C: restaurant voices H: ask the people next to you, raise your hand to ask questions. A: practicing advanced punnet squares using the problems at the end of your note packet! M: sitting still, UNLESS you have finished and I have checked your answers. Then you can walk around to help people. P: working independently on practice problems. S: Identifying exactly what questions you need help on, getting that help and completing the problems correctly so you can ACE THE QUIZ NEXT WEEK, LIKE A BOSS!!!! The quiz next class will have FOUR questions: • Incomplete dominance cross • Sex-linked cross • Codominant cross • Dihybrid cross

  21. ** TURN IN LABS BEFORE YOU LEAVE!
