Do not worry

1. Mat6 25-33  25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? 28 "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. Do not worry

2. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

3. “Therefore I tell you” …do not worry Three reasons (arguments) why we must turn from a worldly perspective to a spiritual view: 1) Two masters…a divided heart, your heart in 2 places 24"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money 2) Treasures in heaven: 19"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

4. 3) Inner light. (Holy spirit) vs. 23 …If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! We are continuously in need for light! Ephesians 1:18I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened… To embrace the principle: Life is more than Food & drink and The Body is more than Clothes. Not to worry about these “basics” is an ongoing spiritual battle!

5. Q: Why is Life is more than Food & drink and why is the Body is more than Clothes? A: As Christians we are introduced to new and spiritual values: I. Life i. We have eternal life. John 4:14 …but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.

6. ii. Our eternal life is Spiritual: John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." 1 Peter 2:4-5  As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him— you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

7. II Body i. Our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit 1 Corinthians 6:19  Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? ii. We belong to the body of Christ (Church) 1 Corinthians 12:13  For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews Or Greeks, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.

8. But…I worry! We are all fighting for control. vs. 27. Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Matthew 5:36 … for you cannot make even one hair white or black. Luke 12:26  Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest …? Matthew 11:28"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (JMCr.)

9. Types of worry: Mark 13:11  Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit (Seth) Matthew 13:22 (The parable of the Sower ) The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful. Being “ choked”

10. Does God really care? (He is there) Luke 8:22-25 Jesus Calms the Storm 22One day Jesus said to his disciples, "Let's go over to the other side of the lake." So they got into a boat and set out. 23As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. 24The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Master, Master, we're going to drown!"    He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. 25"Where is your faith?" he asked his disciples.       In fear and amazement they asked one another, "Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him."

11. Conclusion: 1) Our life is eternal and ultimately cared for by our Lord. 2) Our body is a temple of the Holy spirit. Our care should be for His Glory 3) If He cares for birds, grass and flowers, He cares for us. God is near. Psalm 55:22  Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall. 1 Peter 5:7  Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
