Steps to Improve MDCRS • Current provide about 3,000,000 obs. per month. • Add carriers who operate in data-sparse regions • Alaska Airlines, America West, Frontier, Air Canada Jazz, USA3000, Trans States • Regional carriers with RJs that use ACARS • Reduce communication costs by selecting most useful observations through “Optimization” • Select by flight number and phase of flight • Reduce number of redundant observations • Encourage use of standard format for MDCRS messages – ARINC 620.
