  3. Leadership Training Institute • 33 courses offered by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association • Every imaginable topic related to an athletic director’s position and responsibilities • 4 hours in length • Will increase knowledge and background

  4. LTI Courses offered at: • MSADA Conference – April • MSADA Summer Institute • MSADA New AD Workshop • MSADA Outreach Program • NIAAA National AD Conference – December • Neighboring states throughout the year

  5. National Athletic Director Certification • Offered through NIAAA • Accredited by Middle States • National Bureau of Certification • Highly acclaimed and recognized through country • Signifies professionalism • Three levels: RAA; CAA; CMAA

  6. NFHS Coaching Education • Two basic courses: Fundamentals of Coaching & First Aid • Sport-specific courses • Elective courses • Free courses: Concussions in Sports, the Role of the Parent in Sports and Sportsmanship

  7. NFHS Coaching Elective Courses • Engaging Effectively with Parents • Health and Wellness: A Coach’s Guide to Hydration, Nutrition and Supplements • NCAA Eligibility Center Coaching Education • Teaching and Modeling Behavior • Teaching Sports Skills

  8. NFHS Coaching Certification • The time as arrived • Level I National Certification: Fundamentals & First Aid courses and sport-specific • National data base • Courses on-line

  9. NFHS Coaches Association & Maryland State Coaches Assoc. • Dual membership agreement • $16 membership fee – lowest in country • Benefits: $1 Million liability insurance; subscription to High School Today (only state in nation with this benefit!); state & national awards

  10. Frequently offered Excuses (by both Athletic Directors & Coaches) • I don’t have the time • I don’t have the money to pay for the courses • I have too many responsibilities at school & at home • There ARE solutions to each one! They are only excuses

Professional Development and Professionalism • The beneficiaries are your athletes and program • Coaches with a basis in Education-based athletics will cause less problems and help your athletes develop beyond sport-specific skills • Athletic directors are the leaders of the program & the ‘Coach of Coaches’
