  2. On 21st May 36 delegates took part in the Eco – Driving Project over seven days. As these results will show the Eco – project had a clear positive effect on fuel efficiency achieved by drivers, as shown in Fig.1.   3. Table 1 - Mean driver fuel efficiency and average speed before and after Ecolution training. Table 1 shows average change in fuel efficiency was 6 mpg; this increased efficiency would be expected to give a reduction in fleet fuel costs of 15%.

Fig.2a and 2b show the change in fuel efficiency achieved by individual drivers. • No driver showed any reduction in efficiency • 28 out of 36 drivers (78%) showed an increase of at least 4 mpg. • 12 of 36 drivers (33%) showed an improvement in fuel efficiency of over 20%. • Maximum change in fuel efficiency was 50.2%, Median was an increase of 15.3% Fig.2a/2b - Frequency of absolute and percentage changes in drivers’ fuel efficiency over the course of training

  5. Average speed achieved by the drivers was unaffected over the course of the training. Fig.3 shows that 31 out of 36 drivers (86%) showed a change of average speed of 2mph or less. Across all drivers, average speed actually tended to increase slightly but this was not statistically significant.   6. The results of the training also had a positive effect on the cost of fuel used in order to carry out the exercise. This exercise shows that had all 36 drivers driven a total of 1000 miles each they would have made a total saving of £900.00 for your organisation.

  7. Significant increase in fuel efficiency over the course of the training • Average increase in drivers’ fuel efficiency was 6 mpg • 28 out of 36 drivers (78%) showed an increase of at least 4mpg • No driver showed a decrease in fuel efficiency • No effect of training on average speeds
