  1. By Nicole Fortoso & Hubert-Asamoah-Boadu New France: Modern day Canada • Description : Established for gold in silver by a small group of traders, although none was found. French population remained small because only small groups of traders were sent to the Americas. • Key People: Samuel de Champlain founded Quebec in 1608. René-Robert La Salle claimed the Mississippi river for France. • Daily Life: The French colonist did not enslave Native Americans rather they regularly interacted with them (peacefully). • Benefits of colony:The area was rich with fish and furs that were used in trade. • Impact : The French and Indian war; resulted in a high amount of deaths and gave England a high amount of land as well as debt. Today many people in Canada speak French. • Important Concepts :French traders got a majority of their furs from the Native Americans often becoming allies. Some traders even married Native American women intermingling the two cultures.

  2. Visual Aides The Mississippi river today. The French and Indian war. Samuel de Champlain founder of Quebec. An otter commonly used for it’s furs, this was a good source of economy. An example of their allied tribes, the Inuit.
