Early Life • Ronald Reagan was born in the U.S.A. in Tampico, Illinois. • He was born on February 6, 1911, and his father nicknamed him Dutch. • His dad, (John Edward Reagan) and his mom, (Nelle Wilson Reagan) raised him. • Ronald had one older brother, (John) he was born in 1909 and was nicknamed Moon.

  3. Early Life Ronald Reagan’s father had moved from town to town with the family, because he was searching for work. The family finally settled in Dixon, Illinois when Ronald was 9 years old. One of Ronald’s life changing events, was that when he was an adult, he became divorced with actress Jane Wyman in 1948. Ronald’s mother was a homemaker and an occasional shop clerk. She also loved the theater and was in many amateur productions. Because of this, Ronald became interested in acting at a very early age. Ronald’s father was a shoe salesman, and Ronald’s brother was an advertising executive.

  4. Education • When Ronald was in high school, he played football and basketball and took part in track and swim meets. He also appeared in several school plays, and was elected president of the student council. Also during the summers, he worked as a lifeguard. • He went to a public school. • He went to Tampico, Elementary school, and Dixon High School, in 1924. • He graduated from Eureka College.

Education • Ronald did not have and struggles or learning disabilities, however he was not the best student because he preferred sports more than studies. • When Ronald Reagan was in college, he played football, joined the track team, and served as captain of the swim team. He also had lead roles in many college plays.

  6. Fame And Career • Ronald Reagan became the governor of California for 8 years, from January 2, 1967 to January 6, 1975. Ronald was also and actor and was in a total of 53 movies. The first movie he was in, was called Love Is On The Air, in 1937. The last movie he was in, was called The Killers, in 1964. Ronald Reagan was also the 40th president of the United States, for 2 terms, from 1981 to 1989. • He had to be educated about winning elections, and becoming the governor of California, and later the president of the U.S.A.

  7. Fame And Career • His mother influenced him to go to church, and his belief in god and his church influenced him to become confident, optimistic, and learned to speak in front of audiences. His favorite book influenced him to want to be baptized in his mothers church. The name of the book is That Printer Of Udell’s, by Harold Bell Wright, Ronald Reagan called the main character, Dick Walker one of his role models. • One of his other responsibilities, was that he had 4 children to take care of. Another responsibility, is that as president, he was responsible for making living in the U.S. affordable, and safe for the American people. • He was able to influence others to make peaceful solutions to world problems, such as Nuclear War.

  8. Fame And Career • He was student body president of Dixon High School, captain of the swim team at Eureka College, president of the Screen Actors Guild from 1947 to 1952. In 1966, he was voted governor of California, and again in 1970. He was elected president in 1980, and again in 1984. In 2001, a brand new U.S. Navy aircraft carrier was christen in his name. It was called the USS Ronald Reagan. It was the first ship named after a former president who was still living at the time. • In 1981, Ronald Reagan survived in assassination attempt, when he was president.

  9. Interesting Facts • I did not know that he got divorced in 1948, and died in 2004. I found these facts interesting because, I just learned that and I never new that happened. • When he was married to actress Jane Wyman, he had a daughter, (Maureen Elizabeth) and adopted a son (Michael Edward). Then, he married Nancy Davis and had 2 children, (Patrica Ann) and (Ronald Prescott).

  10. Interesting Facts • Ronald was first a lifeguard in the summer, than he started washing dishes at a fraternity house. • He was in a movie in 1951, called Bedtime For Bonzo, however he did not watch the film until 1984.

  11. Legacy • Ronald Reagan died on June 5, 2004, from Alzheimer's disease. • His death was not tragic, because he was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease in 1994, until 2004, when he sadly had died at age 93.

  12. Legacy • He was most remembered for becoming president, and working hard to make it come true. • Ronald Reagan believed in the American Dream. He went from being a poor school boy, to becoming president. He believed in it so much, that he stated “every won can rise as high and as far as his ability will take him.” He believed that in America, you can live however you want.

  13. Purpose • I chose this person because, he did a lot of great things. Such as influencing others to make peaceful solutions to world problems. I also really like to learn about past presidents. I also never knew that he was an actor. I am happy that I chose this person to research.
