What do we know about South Asians and Heart Disease • In South Asians cardiovascular disease rates are 2-4 times higher than Europeans, African American and other ethnic populations • South Asians have high rates of premature cardiovascular disease (<40) and are younger at the time of hospitalization with respect to heart attacks • Research has found that members of the South Asian community may have a genetic predisposition to developing cardiovascular disease.

  3. What do we know about South Asians and Heart Disease • South Asian Canadians have the highest rates of: • Diabetes • Abnormal blood cholesterol • High blood pressure

  4. Be Physically active Moderate Physical Activity ( Walking, Jogging)------for 30-60 min /day Children 60-90 min/day
