  • A territory that is settled and ruled by a people of a distant land

  • Ex. The Spanish colonies were settled by Spanish people and ruled by the Spanish king, even though they were located in the New World

    • Took the raw materials from the New World and made them into manufactured goods

    • Eg. Cotton Shirts
