Rtos smes and the eu r d programmes for smes1

Research for SMEs and Research for SME Associations are an attractive outsourcing programme

Attractive for SMEs because

national programmes mostly do not fund research with foreign partners

but innovative SMEs need to access foreign markets in order to grow

most of the R&D cost covered by the programme

but the contacts and the “culture” are more important than the money

Attractive for RTOs because correspond well to RTOs’ contract research activity

But these are highly competitive programmes

Careful preparation is therefore essential:

Be sure your project fits well with the programme objectives

Clearly emphasise the value added for the participating SMEs and economic impact

Well written proposal, present your case clearly and convincingly

Opportunities for turkey in brussels

Turkey is an attractive economic partner for EU countries: large, modernising economy (70 million+ population)

Turkish enterprises want to expand their links with the EU in order to grow (EU = 60% of exports and more than 50% of imports)

EU R&D programmes provide an opportunity to build business relationships with enterprises and research organisations in EU countries

Opportunity through the large Turkish communities e.g. Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands

But Framework Programme, and other European programmes, complex for the outsider

Turkey must therefore provide advice and assistance to SMEs, other enterprises and research organisations wanting to use the opportunities of European R&D programmes
