Highlights from 2013 • Pacific Paddling Symposium – Victoria, BC May 31 – June 2, 2013 • Sold out event : hosted over 160 participants including 30 sea kayaking instructors from across Canada and the US Pacific Northwest, 30 volunteers and 100 participants • 2014 Pacific Paddling Symposium on May 30–June 1 is already sold out again. • National Trade Shows: • Toronto Outdoor Adventure & Fall Cottage Life • Calgary & Vancouver Outdoor Adventure • Ottawa Outdoor Adventure (thanks to Ontario Tourism and National Search and Rescue Secretariat) Paddle Canada Executive Director's Report for 2013 AGM- April 24, 2014

Highlights from 2013 • MEC Paddlefests: Halifax, Toronto, Barrie, Winnipeg, Edmonton • Media and on site support with Canadian Safe Boating Council’s Safe Boating Awareness Week May 18-24, 2013 • Welcomed director Jim Coffee for Quebec region filling interim vacancy Paddle Canada Executive Director's Report for 2013 AGM- April 24, 2014

Highlights from 2013 • New Liability Insurance Policy of $5 million for instructors when teaching a registered PC course/clinic with added coverage for participants & volunteers. • Member Sport Accident Policy of $50,000 • Paddle Canada now included in OPHEA Manual • After a 2 year review process, PC canoeing is now included as an ORCKA training equivalent. All Ontario public school board phys ed teachers follow these guidelines. • Kayaking inclusion is next for 2015  . Paddle Canada Executive Director's Report for 2013 AGM- April 24, 2014

Highlights from 2013 • Finalized A Strategic Plan : Paddle Canada’s Float Plan for Success 2013-15 PC’s Float Plan for Success with board and facilitator Tim Fleming from InnovationsWorks.com, with a meeting in January 2013 in Ottawa. Transport Canada National Recreational Boating Advisory Committee • Continue to serve as a member of NRBAC and attended meetings in April & November 2013 in Ottawa with many other national water safety stakeholders.

  6. Highlights from 2013 • Annual Projects: • Waterwalker Film Festival – very successful for small organizations and over $2000 earned in revenue • Bill Mason Scholarship – Awarded $1000 award to student Lindsey Haist

Highlights from 2013 Partnerships: • AdventureSmart: National Search & Rescue Secretariat • Introducing PaddleSmart • A $200 K project from July to March 2014 • Public outreach tools and trade shows • Layout and printing of Presenters Manual • Program launch at SARSCENE 2013 in Chilliwack BC Oct 19-21 with PC Board of Directors and PDC Chairs. • Train the Presenter Workshops nationally • Increased to full time hours for Dawn Callan to co-ordinate project Paddle Canada Executive Director's Report for 2013 AGM- April 24, 2014

Highlights from 2013 • Transport Canada Office of Boating Safety: wrapped up $50,000 funding project (April 2012 to March 31, 2013) to support PC events, program expansion and safety awareness and media Partnerships: • Ontario Tourism – Renewed a one year contract April, 2013 – March 2014 forOutdoor Ontario web portal content management, stories, blogs contract management services - www.ontariooutdoor.com Paddle Canada Executive Director's Report for 2013 AGM- April 24, 2014

Highlights from 2013 Partnerships: • National Paddling Week June 15-23, 2013 - producing partners: Canadian Canoe Museum, Rapid Media and Paddle Canada – 150 events & over 2000 participants nationally2nd Annual planned for June 6-15, 2014 www.paddleweek.ca - goal of 200 events with 2500 participants. • Multiview – revenue sharing contract to manage digital web and enewsletter banner ads along with management of Current Strokes Enewsletter Paddle Canada Executive Director's Report for 2013 AGM- April 24, 2014

Highlights from 2013 Partnerships: • Ottawa/Gatineau Sports Ecology ParkSome progress was made with recommendations for both cities to adopt vision of a whitewater and ecology park in the vicinity of the Chaudiere Dam, Ottawa River. Organizations engaged now include: • National Capital Commission • Hydro Ottawa & Quebec Hydro • Windmill Development • Heritage Canada • Ottawa Heritage • Canadian Green Building Council • Paddle Canada • Canadian Wildlife Federation • Local First Nations Paddle Canada Executive Director's Report for 2013 AGM- April 24, 2014

Highlights from 2013 Partnerships: • St Lawrence College Kingston, ON • Marketing students (summer and fall) used Paddle Canada as their final class project • Reviews, audit and future recommendations of PC’s Media • In November a targeted Youth Leader digital media campaign was completed with great success.
