  1. Layered Vocabulary • Each week, record the vocabulary words, definitions, and parts of speech in your English notebook. • Then choose one of the following activities to learn the words and how to use them.

  2. Learning Activity • Use a thesaurus to find 2 synonyms for each word. Then write a sentence for each of the definitions provided. Do this in your English notebook. • Make flashcards with each of the words and definitions on either side. • Write a paragraph using each of the vocabulary words at least once. The paragraph should make sense, and use the words correctly. This could also be in poem form. Do this in your English notebook. • Make a crossword puzzle using each vocabulary word once. You should include clues and be able to correctly solve it yourself. Do this in your English notebook. • Find examples of vocabulary words in real-life places. • This could be the newspaper, online, in a book. Cut out the example, if possible, or write it down with a notation explaining where you found it so I can find it again. Do this in your English notebook.

  3. Grading • Credit will be given by verbal learning check. You will be asked to define 5 words with each word defined correctly earning 2 points for a total of 10 points possible.
