  5. University Learning Center Writing Services: Online Writing & Learning (OWL) Free writing help. • Submit a paper online • 48-72 hour e-mail response • Writing handouts & guides available online

University Learning Center OWL Pilot Data • Over 67% of pilot participants said OWL helped them think about their papers. • Over 67% said the response they received was helpful. • 86% said they would use the OWL again. • Students who used OWL showed developmental gains in learned reasoning, effective communication, and personal responsibility compared to non-users. • Almost 18% of all Writing Services tutorials are now online.

University Learning CenterLearning Services Data Sample Data Collected through Tutor Trac (2006/07 school year) • 560 students made over 3,000 visits • 13.5% were African American • 2.8% were Asian/Asian-American • 3.5% were Hispanic/Latino • 146 of those students were transfer students • 259 lived on campus • Our top 5 tutoring subjects were: Spanish, Biology, Japanese, Physics and Psychology

  11. University Learning CenterSupplemental Instruction Fall 2006 Data • Fall 2007 coverage has expanded from 5 subjects and 4 leaders to 8 subjects and 16 leaders • Newest additions for Fall 2007: BIO 240, BIO 105, PHY 101, PHY 201

University Learning CenterSupplemental Instruction SI Data (continued) • Students enrolled in BIO 204 who attended SI sessions had a total GPA of 2.23 (8.5% higher than non SI students). • Students enrolled in CHM 101 who attended SI sessions had an overall GPA of 2.44, (10.5% higher than non SI students). • Students enrolled in MAT 111 who attended SI sessions received a total GPA of 3.0

  13. University Learning Center Math Services Free help for: • Students in any basic studies math or statistics course. • Drop-in help during Learning Lab hours or make an appointment.

  14. University Learning CenterMath Services Recent Data • In the first 6 weeks of the move of math tutoring to the University Learning Center: • We’ve seen 276 students visit our open lab more than 600 times. • More than 300 of those visits were consultations w/ math tutors.
