  1. Natural Environments Environment – The surrounding in which a person, animal, or plant lives in. Local environments limit life. Factors such as temperature, rainfall, and soil conditions affect where plants/animals can live.

  2. Connections in Nature Ecosystem – A group of plants and animals that depend on each other for survival and the environment in which they live.

  3. Changes to Environments • Habitat – The place where a plant or animal lives. • Extinct – When a plant/animal species dies out. • Humus – Decayed plant or animal matter. • Desertification – The spread of desert like conditions due to erosion or human error; loss of soil fertility.
