  2. 2013 Strategic Drivers • Regulatory requirements • Rapid changes in technology • Balancing the need for more data access vs. system security • Maintaining the balance between Members’ divergent needs with desire to decrease cost • Competition for staffing • As always, day-to-day operations

Projects • Member Portal Single Sign-In System • Member-Net, our most used external application went live April 25th • GSOC Data Portal is planned for May • Green Power EMC and Telecomm projects’ sites to be added soon • Member.gafoc.com is the address for access • ECOT – EMC Customer Outage Tracking

  4. Projects: Energy Scheduling Process • Study under way to determine the financial difference between cost of the current and a restructured approach to the energy scheduling process

  5. Multi-Protocol Label SwitchingProject (MPLS) – Scope • Joint project with GTC to upgrade existing network connections between our control centers and remote sites • Increase capacity, security, and reliability of network • Replace end-of-life networking technology • Utilize Member System and GTC fiber, where available

MPLS Project – Recent Accomplishments • Completed Fiber Optic Ring • Fiber construction finished • Electronics to light fiber installed • Testing of capacity and performance in progress • Cross-connects to Windstream in place BCC/Jackson GPW Windstream QTS Cobb Savvis/Greystone Tucker 56 Marietta Carrier Interconnection Site

  7. MPLS Project – Status (cont.) • Field Work Preparations Begun • Surveying applications at each substation to determine configurations • Installation of fiber at each substation in progress • First shipment of equipment has arrived • Initial Circuits on Order

  9. 2012 Telecom Strategy Conclusions and Recommendations: • Data requirements will continue to grow • Focused, value-added fiber development fits well in the co-op model • Consider an “owned” option of telecommunication services through evaluation of value-added deployment of fiber • Participate in an EMC Broadband Advisory Committee to further strategy development

Drivers for Fiber Network • Further improve capacity, reliability and security of our telecommunications • Support EMC operations – SCADA, AMI, Call Centers • Provide more physical and economic control of future telecommunications needs and resources • Promote economic development in Members’ territory – Education – Business Development – Public Safety & Health

Conclusions and Recommendations • Work with GTC to leverage new projects and potential capacity swaps to extend network at low incremental costs • Continue coordination with members on fiber installation and utilization • Incrementally develop resources and infrastructure to support the initiative • Consider potential for members to form/join telecommunications cooperatives to provide services beyond operational requirements
