  1. What do children in my school think about zoos? By Amba Hathalia Year 5 Wavendon Gate School

  2. Deciding on my research question • My own opinion is conflicted. • On the one hand I love zoos because I get to see the animals that I probably would never get to see otherwise. • But on the other hand I don’t like zoos because they capture and cage the animals.

  3. How I collected data… • Decided on my topic • Decided on the best questions to ask, keeping most of them open. • Then I made my questionnaire. • Gave out the questionnaires to years 1 – 5. • Collected in the completed questionnaires. • Analysed the data by coding the answers to the open questions.

  4. Research ethics • Signed consent forms by the children that took part. • I kept my research anonymous and confidential. • I used all the questions that I had.

  5. How many boys and girls responded in each year group?

  6. Responses completed to the question: Do you like zoos?

  7. Why do you like to visit zoos?

  8. Results for question 5

  9. Results for question 6

  10. Question 7

  11. My conclusion… Most children agree with my conflicted opinion about zoos. On question 3 I asked if the children liked to visit zoos, and most of them said yes but at the end I asked if they wanted to change anything then how would they and most of them said that they wood change quite a lot.

  12. What I would do differently next time The thing that I would do differently is put more questions in and I would also change some.

  13. What else I would like to find out… The other thing that I would like to find out is what do the children think that animals are good? The answer I would put down would be that they are good because they protect the animals that the poachers capture therefor it is less likely that an type of animal will get extinked

  14. Thank you! Any questions?
