  1. Ladder 29 Introduction to Truck 3 Pierce 105’ Aerial

  2. Quint • According to Fire Department Aerial Apparatus, First Edition. Quints : Apparatus equipped with pumps, water tanks, ground ladders, and hose beds in addition to the aerial device.

  3. How is L29 equipped? • PUMP: 1500 GPM Waterous pump • TANK: 200 gallon water tank • LADDERS: 35’ Extension 24’ Extension 14’ Extension 16’ Roofer (qty: 2) 10’ Attic

  4. Cont. • HOSE BED: 5” LDH Total = 860 ft • 800’ of LDH supply • 30’ pony at front LDH intake • 30’ pony at Officers rear compartment 1 3/4” hose Total = 800 ft • 200’ Drivers preconnect (qty: 2) • 150’ Apartment bundle (qty: 2) • 100’ Rolled in crows nest

  5. Cont. • HOSE BED: 2 1/2” hose Total = 330 ft • 300’ of 2 ½” Reverse • 30’ pony in Drivers jump seat • AERIAL DEVICE: 105’ Hydraulic ladder Max horizontal length = 100 ft Max weight rating at full horizontal extension = • 450 lbs dry / 250 lbs wet

  6. Cont. • AERIAL DEVICE: 105’ Hydraulic ladder Max vertical height = 106 ft Max weight rating at 70° to 75° = • 500 lbs dry/ 500 lbs wet

  7. Overview 450 Hp Detroit Diesel Single chassis Triple axle 105’ Telescoping Aerial ladder Box type stabilizers Back-up 12 Vdc hydraulic pump Weight = 33 tons

  8. Key items to note • Stabilizer Beam Control • Drivers front & rear • Officers front & rear • Order of controllers In / Out are outside levers Up / Down are inside levers front –rear rear-front

  9. Key items cont. • Stabilizer Control Panel HI - IDLE • Kicks up rpms for more power to hydraulic pump • Makes Stabilizer or Aerial functions quicker

  10. Key items cont. • Stabilizer control panel AERIAL DIVERTER • Switches hydraulic power between Stabilizers and Aerial device • Should only be used with motor at idle • Exception is when apparatus pump is operating

  11. Key items cont. • Stabilizer control panel EMERGENCY HYDRAULIC POWER • Back up emergency pump • Electric motor powered by 12 Vdc truck batteries • Use switch and hydraulic valve at same time • Use 1 min on 1 min off for proper cool down until aerial is bedded

  12. Key items cont. • Stabilizer control Panel STABILIZER NOT FULLY EXTENDED OVERRIDE • Allows for short jacking • Must have one side fully extended • Takes 2 FF to operate • Hold until aerial unbedded • Operate over extended side only

  13. Key items cont. • Stabilizer control panel ROTATION LIMIT OVERRIDE • Allows aerial to be rotated over short jacked side • It is against dept PPG to operate over short jacked side. IT SAYS NEVER!

  14. Key items cont. • Stabilizer Control Panel INDICATOR LIGHTS

  15. Aerial control pedestal Important switches • Nozzle master • Aerial remote master • High idle • Hydraulic emergency pwr

  16. Aerial control pedestal Otheritems • Nozzle controls • Aerial controls • Stability indicator • Water flow indicator • System pressure gauge Other indicators

  17. Apparatus rear • Level indicators Max front to rear deg° = 6 ½ ° Max side to side deg° = 5 ½ ° • Aerial waterway drain • Emergency override switch

  18. Officers side • Hydraulic oil reservoir • Primer fluid

  19. Officers side cont. • Oil and Trans. fluid • Primer fluid

  20. Pinnable waterway • Two positions • Fly- water tower operations • Mid- rescue operations

  21. Pinnable waterway cont. • Always pinned in rescue position

  22. Stabilizers • Box style • Must extend prior to putting down • Must use pads • Must use pins

  23. Things not discussed • Ladder operations • Pump panel Questions?
