  2. Update Format: • Questions and answers: use index cards, which will be collected. Q & A at end of session • Make sure we have your name, so we can use it for drawings • Format for today: following overall update, Paul Bink will demonstrate features of the system – some features will interest you a lot!

  3. SABRE Team Update: In June, the SABRE team received the most current version of the Oracle Student System Good news: The version has been installed! Bad news: Version can be used for testing only, 2001-2, since it is not production quality.

  4. Why testing only for 2001-2002? • Fact #1: The delivery of the Oracle product (which is production quality) has been delayed until August, 2002.

  5. Context: This delay is not unusual when using products in development, with projects like SABRE. Reality check: This delay was beyond the control of the SABRE team

  6. SABRE Plan, given delay of Product Release Fact #2: We on the SABRE team are getting ready, in every way possible, for the next version which will be production quality

  7. SABRE Plan, given delay of product release Context: SABRE has a long-standing commitment to only release a production-ready product/system, therefore there was no plan to prematurely rush a version into use Team commitment: The team will make best use of this time, (1) to become experts at the Gap/Fit process, (2) to learn the Oracle system, and (3) to resolve policy issues via the appropriate campus channels

  8. SABRE 2001-2 Goals: Goal#1: • To learn to love the Oracle product, and develop automaticity using it,AND

  9. SABRE 2001-2 Goals: Goal #2: • This academic year, with Administrative Computing, delivera web-based student inquiry system. This system is being developed by our campuscomputing staff.

  10. SABRE – Spring 2002 Benefit #1: The SABRE team members are talking to students andmembers of their campus network to select items for students to view Benefit #2: Students will have access to their own academic and financial information with links to download some campus forms: empowerment via self-service

  11. SABRE – Spring 2002 Benefit #3: Students and others will become familiar with the same web-based access process to be used with SABRE Benefit #4: Administrative Computing will get used to using a new Oracle tool, the same one which will be used with SABRE SABRE Spring 2002

  12. SABRE – Spring 2002 • Other campuses with similar systems have noticed the following: • When some students can help themselves (high tech), others can get the help they need from staff (high touch), because fewer students need face-to-face assistance

  13. SABRE – Spring 2002 The finishing touches are currently being completed. SABRE Spring 2002 will be the focus of the SABRE Spring ‘02 update! The system will be available for use prior to registration for Spring, 2002 Student Self Service SABRE Spring 2002

  14. Remainder of today’s session: • Return to the Oracle Student System – live viewing of what the SABRE team has set up on the Oracle Student System • We’ll show you back-office forms viewable by users who have been given access to specific information

  15. Continuing SABRE campus commitment: • Continue to communicate in multiple formats • Give Buffalo State both short term and long term products upon which we can all rely • Questions? Turn in your index cards News about SABRE! SABRE Bytes! SABRE Web Site
