  1. CPV Sentinel Energy Project Ensuring Electric Reliability and Supporting Renewable Energy Expansion

  2. April 2011 June 2012 Scale: 1,000’

  3. CPV Sentinel • 800 MW* natural gas-fired peaking powergenerating facility • Located north of I10, near Desert Hot Springs • Under construction; completion scheduled for August, 2013 • Long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Southern California Edison *1MW supports approximately 1,000 homes

  4. Construction Progress • Five years in the making • Construction began June 2011 • 70 percent complete • 410,133 man-hours worked • 1,400 people hired • 340 workers on site

  5. Why a Peaking Power Facility? • Grid operators use a mix of base, intermediate and peaking plants to maintain the supply/demand balance of the grid • Peaking power facilities ensure electric reliability and support renewable energy • CPV Sentinel: • Runs only when needed most (hot days) • Starts and stops quickly (10 minutes) • Backstops intermittent renewables (it is not always windy or sunny)

  6. Economic Benefits • Pure private stimulus • $900 private investment in California • Generates new local revenues • $25 million in sales tax • $5 million in annual property tax • Creates new jobs • 350 new construction jobs, $40 million payroll • More than 380 indirect jobs during construction, $15 million in additional payroll • $14 permanent jobs, $1.3 million payroll
