Ethics and Resume Integrity

Ethics

Ethics

  • Due to widespread misrepresentation on applications and resumes, companies have become increasingly skeptical

  • Many companies double-check to make sure candidates are not lying

  • Exaggerating on your application or resume is wrong; it leads an employer to believe you are something you are not

Ethics1

Ethics

  • It is to your advantage to be truthful in your resume even if many people are not; don’t jump on the bandwagon!

  • If your employer finds out that you have given false information, you may be dismissed from the job

Ethics example

Ethics Example

  • A former CEO of a chain of consumer electronics stores said he received degrees in theology and psychology from a private California college

  • An investigation ensued and the college reported that the CEO completed only 2 semesters and did not graduate from the school

  • The CEO who worked for the company for 10 years was forced to resign

  • Having an email account, one you can check anytime from anywhere in the world, is important.

  • You may be on vacation when a message arrives notifying you of an important job interview, so you don’t want to miss it.
