  2. Campaign Training • Winning an Election is easy.. …if you put some serious effort in!

  3. Campaign Training Some quick tips: • Have a catchy slogan • Make your posters stand out • Have something to accompany your posters – ‘mini-festo’ works well and also tiny leaflets with your face on • Have a 3 or 4 aims you want to achieve which you can sell to students (and these aims need to be practical!) • Create a Facebook ‘like’ page which you can direct students to.

  4. Campaign Training Some handy tips: • Having a physical presence is something students will appreciate. This doesn’t have to be you personally, it can be an object that moves around.. • If you have time to make a banner – do it! Sheets and spray paint are cheap (hit up Asda or Wilkinsons) and as long and you’re careful, they are reasonably easy to put up. Pro-tip: CABLE TIES!! Don’t use paint..

  5. Campaign Training Some handy tips: • Posters – make sure it contains all relevant information such as key manifesto points, time and dates of voting and any websites you have. • Easyprint.co.uk – free business cards • GET YOUR FACE EVERYWHERE! Websites like Photobox.co.uk offer 60 free photos when you sign up. • Also, t-shirts….

  7. Campaign Training Have a catchy slogan! • Dan Needham becomes… Got Beef? Need Ham?....

  8. Campaign Training Videos are a great way of securing your online presence. Students want their officers to go above and beyond so you need to ensure this is reflected in your video. The more quirky you make it, the likelier you’ll be remembered on a ballot sheet. Jack Schofield Rochelle Owusu-Antwi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8QMZMo6cDA

  9. Campaign Training • Online campaigning has a lot of benefits. You can reach voters all hours of the day and send messages directly to them. • Social Media such as Facebook and twitter • Not everyone appreciates being spammed. Remember not to abuse any email privileges you may have. • Everyone will be campaigning on Facebook – don’t rely on it too much • Speaking to a voter face to face has a bigger impact

  10. Campaign Training • Make sure your campaigning isn’t illegal or against University Rules • If you work for the Union you can’t campaign while on shift as everyone has to remain neutral. • No staff employed by University can endorse candidates • Baking cakes may seem like a great idea at the time but there are some things you may not have considered.

  11. Campaign Training Campaign teams are really useful for times when you’re too busyor have deadlines to meet. However, make sure they’re people you can trust not to break the rules as this could compromise your position in the election.
