  1. LiverpoolSU and the NSS Dan Cole, Vice President Community Engagement Chelsea Keatinge, Student Voice Co-ordinator

  2. Two interests: • Questions 1 to 22, and free text comments • Student experience, how this should be developed • Question 23 • First asked in 2012 • What students think about us

  3. Questions 1-22 • Useful to look at holistic picture of how LJMU is doing in relation to other universities • and how faculties are doing compared to other faculties • What are the best and worst scores in each course- give that info to Course Reps. • Areas of poor performance in NSS correlate to what we already know about the student experience • Teaching Quality • Timetabling • Assessment • Placements

  4. Past Projects • 2009 NSS result for the question “Feedback on my work has been prompt” only 53% of students responded positively • LiverpoolSU produced the Assessment and Feedback Charter • The university committed to returning feedback to students in less than fifteen working days, amongst other things. • In the National Student Survey results for 2013 72% of students were satisfied • increase in student satisfaction of 19%

  5. New Projects • This yearwe hope to put some work together about the following issues: • Timetabling • Placements

  6. Q23 • Need to improve our score significantly • Action plan in place for bottom five (or so) courses from each faculty • Separate plan for “traditional” courses and non-standard courses. • Helpful to show us where we have not prioritised activity/ where we need to improve engagement.

  7. Barriers to success • Communication difficulties with Programme Leaders • Process of developing relationship takes time • Different opinions of what an SU should be/ do. Clarity of message. • But we hope that we will see significant improvement in 2014.

  8. Additional work • Visiting other Students’ Unions • Ongoing discussions with estates management • Copperas Hill • Interim period location (Agent Marketing) • Ongoing discussions with university regarding Data • GOATing activity: over 6000 students spoken to face-to-face this year.
