Defining the Problem at Magna Health Insurance • CEO believed current wellness program was ineffective • Statistics indicate increase in employee sick days • Statistics indicate a drop in sales • Surveys indicate decrease in employee morale • Surveys indicate low employee enthusiasm for exercise • Fitness specialist was fired • I was hired shortly thereafter to fix problems

  5. Issues faced upon my arrival • 50% of employees believed previous wellness program was ineffective • 65% of employees found equipment too complex to use • 70% of employees would prefer fun and exciting exercise classes • 90% believed nutrition counseling should be offered

  6. My approach • Institute exercise classes to increase enthusiasm for exercising • Will increase use of exercise facility • Will reduce employee sick days • Will increase employee morale • Will improve employee BMI numbers • Will help increase company sales

Current Exercise Equipment • Equipment was bought 5 years ago • 4 treadmills =$8,000 • 4 exercise bikes = $5,000 • Two 150 lb dumbbell sets with racks = $600 • Standard machines for lower and upper body • 1 Cybex Jungle gym = $7,500 • 1 Cybex Multi-station = $6,000 • Total cost of equipment was $21,100

  8. My Solution • Sell all equipment to a manufacturer • Estimated recovery is $8,400 • Spend money on new equipment • Use available space in empty exercise facility for exercise classes • Kickboxing • Kettlebell • Jazzercise • Yoga

  9. My Solution • Replace existing rug with hardwood floor • Estimated Cost of project is $2,500 • Money left-over is $5,900 • Remaining balance will be used on necessary equipment

  10. Equipment for Kickboxing Class • 10 Kickboxing bags/ $1,300 • Needed as surface to kick • 50 ankle supports/$750 • One per employee • Both at Sports Authority

  13. Equipment for Jazzercise Class Platform provides surface to step up on 15 platforms/$1,200 Step-up raises increase difficulty of workout Found at Sports Authority 20 aerobic step-up raises/$1,000
