  1. Area and Perimeter Miss. Morrison 8th Grade Geometry

  2. Perimeter and Area • Perimeter is the distance around the outside of a flat object. • Area is the amount of surface space that a flat object has.

  3. Click on Each Shape to Learn How to Find Its Perimeter and Area Square Rectangle Circle Parallelogram Trapezoid Triangle Click to go to Quiz

  4. Circumference of a Circle • The perimeter of a circle is actually called its circumference. • Formula: C = 2 • “r” is half the diameter of the circle. r Click to go to the Area

  5. Area of a Circle • To find the area of the circle, square the radius and multiple it by • Formula: Click to go to Menu

  6. Perimeter of a Rectangle • To find the perimeter double the length and double the width and add them together. • Formula: P = 2L + 2W

  7. Area of a Rectangle • To find the area multiple the length by the width. • Formula: A = L x W

  8. Perimeter of a Square • To find the perimeter multiple the side length by 4. • Formula: P = 4s s Click to go to the Area

  9. Area of a Square • To find the area is square the length of the sides. • Formula: A = s Click to go to Menu

  10. Perimeter of a Triangle • To find the perimeter add up all the lengths of the sides. • Formula: P = a + b + c a b c Click to go to the Area

  11. Area of a Triangle • To find the area multiple the base times the height times ½. • Formula: A = ½ b x h Click to go to Menu

  12. Perimeter of a Trapezoid • To find the perimeter add up all for sides of the trapezoid. • Formula: P = a + b + c + d a c d b Click to go to the Area

  13. Area of a Trapezoid • To find the area add the base values together and multiple it by ½ the height. • Formula: Click to go to Menu

  14. Perimeter of a Parallelogram • To find the perimeter twice the length plus twice the width. • P = 2L + 2W L W Click to go to the Area

  15. Area of a Parallelogram • To find the area multiple the base times the height. • Formula: A = b x h Click to go to Menu

  16. Quiz What is the area of the Trapezoid? 10 12 15 135 150 165

  17. Nice Try! Sorry, but 135 is not the correct answer. Try checking your calculations and make sure you are using the correct formula. HINT: Back to Quiz

  18. Good Job! Correct, 150 is the answer. A = ½ (12) x (10 + 15) A = ½ (12) x (25) A = 6 x 25 A = 150 Click to Continue

  19. Nice Try! Sorry, but 165 is not the correct answer. Try checking your calculations and make sure you are using the correct formula. HINT: Back to Quiz

  20. Congratulations!! You just complete our lesson on area and perimeter. Click on the finish line to restart for the next student
