Unit: Jesus Performed Miracles • Week 1 : Jesus Healed an Official’s Son (John 4:46-54) • Week 2: Jesus Drove Out Unclean Spirits (Mark 1:21-28; Luke 4:31-37) • Week 3: Jesus Healed Peter’s Mother-in-Law (Matt 8:14-17; Mark 1:29-31; Luke 4:38-39) • Week 4: Jesus Cleansed a Leper (Matt 8:1-4; Mark 1:40-45; Luke 5:12-16) Unit Christ Connection: Jesus’ miracles demonstrated His divine authority.

Unit: Jesus Performed Miracles Jesus Healed an Official’s Son (John 4:46-54) • The setting (4:46) • This event takes place at the end of the Judean ministry two days after meeting the woman from Sychar at the well (4:43)1 Unit Christ Connection: Jesus’ miracles demonstrated His divine authority.

The father “begged him to come down” (v. 47, RSV) to where his son was. . . . Jesus was able to do his work because he was accepted. In contrast, remember how on another occasion men begged Jesus to leave their territory (Mark 5:17). He did. But after all, this was the condition stated in John 1:12. Unit: Jesus Performed Miracles Jesus Cleansed a Leper (Matt 8:1-4; Mark 1:40-45; Luke 5:12-16) • Observation • The account of the leper gives us an instructive example of the prayer that God answers: • It was earnest and desperate—imploring Him. • It was reverent—kneeling down to Him. • It was humble and submissive—“If You are willing.” • It was believing—“You can.” • It acknowledged need—“make me clean.” • It was specific—not “bless me” but “make me clean.” • It was personal—“make me clean.” • It was brief—five words in the original.5 Unit Christ Connection: Jesus’ miracles demonstrated His divine authority.
