  6. The DBSA is one of the founding members of the South African Innovation Network. SAINe provides a platform for learning, sharing and collaborating on innovation. SAINe was created as a result of the Cofisa’s ISLP programme. All existing steering committee members were part of the original ISLP group. ISLP Innovation Activities

  7. Education is essential for sustainable development. The DBSA has created strategic partnerships with two institutions through the Innovation Unit that focuses on youth development. Recent discussions have resulted in the support of additional initiatives through introductions. • Financial sponsorship • Partnered with SIFE to host University day to equip students with practical entrepreneurial skills • Presented to SIFE representatives on Lateral Thinking Tools and Innovation Concepts • Provide a platform for SIFE at all Innovation Events hosted at DBSA • Ongoing support through introductions and advice • Financial sponsorship of 3 programmes – Entrepreneurial Training of Youth, Grade 10 and above • Sponsor development of a creativity board game • Created linkages with COJ as part of the I & E Week – Youth Day • Provide platform at all Innovation Events hosted at DBSA • Ongoing support through introductions and advice Innovation Activities

  8. Literature has highlighted the potentially important role of networks for innovative activities and success. The DBSA has had a series of Dialogues in the past year, these dialogues have covered key topics around: • Social Innovations, the panel included Taddy Blecher and Vernie Chettyson, attendees included academic representatives and those organisations already working on social innovation projects • Grass Root Level Innovations, a NACI event hosted by the DBSA. The panel included academic, public and private sector representatives. Attendees included the DBSA innovation community and NACI community • International Speaker Breakfast, With Andrew Zoli, founder of PopTech Innovation Activities

The DBSA is ideally positioned to provide a platform for discussion, debate and collaboration. • The 1st Innovation and Entrepreneurship conference was held during the Global Entrepreneurship Week. • Over 100 delegates attended with presentations from 23 key representatives from academia, public and private sector. • A post conference publication with all papers will be distributed to the broader innovation community in SA.   10. The DBSA through the Innovation Unit tries to provide ongoing support for initiatives sponsored financially in the past. This includes an ongoing strategic partnership with Impumelelo Innovation Awards Trust. • The launch of the 2010 Sustainability Awards and the Environmental Replication Workshop was hosted by the DBSA. • The DBSA will provide ongoing support to Impumelelo to replicate innovations that have been awarded Innovation Activities
