  2. Investigation Questions Which liquids have the highest and lowest pitches? • Will thickness and thinness have an affect on the pitch?

  3. Hypothesis I think water will have the highest pitch and soap will have the lowest pitch because if thickness and thinness matters then water will be thinner and soap will be thicker. The second highest will be Sprite because it is really thin too. Third, oil because I think it is really thin too. Fourth, shampoo, because sometimes it is thinner than soap.

  4. Materials 1 cup of sprite 1 cup of water 1 cup of milk 1 cup of soap 1 cup of shampoo 1 cup of cooking oil • Tools • Measuring cup • Wooden spoon • 6 cups

  5. Procedure Lay out glasses. Put in one cup of each liquid into different cups. Tap each cup with a wooden spoon. 4) Observe and record data.

  6. Data • Shampoo is the lowest pitch and oil is the highest. Milk is lower than soap. Soap is the third lowest. Sprite and water are tied for second highest. Shampoo made a thud when I hit the cup with the wooden spoon. • At first it was hard to hear the differences. Then I spread apart the glasses. That made it easier to hear the differences.

  7. I learned that the thicker the liquid the lower the pitch and the thinner the liquid the higher the pitch. That’s why shampoo is the lowest and oil is the highest. • My hypothesis was incorrect because I said water is the highest and soap is the lowest, which was incorrect. • I was surprised that it was really hard to hear the liquids because in class it was really easy to hear them. Conclusion

  8. Conclusion Cont. • One thing I will do differently next time is use glasses instead of glass cups because I think it would work better like the ones in class. • My question for further study is , Will it work better if I hit the glasses with a medal spoon?
