  1. Jonah from Waterloo Road

  2. Clip that represents Jonah • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cyX0oTe7oE • This shows his divorced parents rowing, skip to 12 mins in. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyME_eymdeo • This shows him finding out about his girlfriend sleeping with a teacher.

  3. Character background/role in programme • When Jonah first arrived at Waterloo Road he had been chafing under the restrictive bonds of home-schooling for some time. Home-schooled by doting parents who accept him for who he is, Jonah is always authentic. Unlike Jess he is comfortable in his own skin.  It’s this that really attracts the ladies but as his relationship with Jess proved last term, Jonah’s maturity can also make attachments with his peers difficult. • When Jonah finds himself comforting Cesca after a brutal dog attack at the start of term it’ll be the start of a new love secret love affair. For Jonah this is the perfect woman, funny, kind, beautiful and whilst Cesca struggles under the implications of what they’re doing, Jonah never questions it. Always brought up to fight for what he believes it right, that’s exactly what he’ll do but as things get ever more serious and the possible consequences become all too real, Jonah’s going to need all his maturity to see it through.

  4. Can you tell they're working class by how they look and speak?  • In Jonah’s case he speaks well and has a posh accent, but that is due to him being home schooled. When he went to waterloo road you can see him picked up bad speaking habits but compared to other students he speaks well. He has short, almost shaved head so that makes him look working class and he also wears a black waterproof jacket which are associated with chavs.

  5. How do you know they're working class? How is it shown in the programme?

  6. Who's point of view are we watching?

  7. What do others think of her character?

  8. How are we supposed to think of them?

  9. Is this character stereotypical of working class youth? or does it subvert our expectations? If so/not, how?
