  1. Introduction Vocabulary words: 1.Force – push or pull or twist 2.Contact force- force that unseen that has contact with the other object 3.Non-contact force-unseen force that does not have any contact with the other object. 4.Newton(N)- unit to measure force, ( 1 kg = 10 N) 5.Spring balance- a weighing scale used to measure forces.

  2. Introduction Vocabulary words: 6.Weight– pulling of force of gravity ; force that depends on the mass of an object. (Unit is to measure weight is Newton (N)) 7.Mass-is the amount of matter an object contains and does not change. Unit to measure mass is kg or g. 8.Lift – is an upward force that allows an aircraft to stay in the air 9.Thrust – is push force ( a forward force) that gets an object moving .

  3. Introduction Vocabulary words: 10.Drag/Air resistance – is the force that provide backward force 11.Streamlined– allows the object to move easily through air and water 12. Upthrust – is the force that push you up with the same force that your weight push you up. 13.Bouyancy- the force keeping the ship from sinking 14.Cohesion– the force in the water that attract particles together

  4. Introduction Vocabulary words: 15.Surface tension – is the cohesion at the surface of the water 16.Motion – change in position 17.Speed – is the measure how fast is the object moving ( distance/Time) 18.Velocity – The speed and the direction of the object 19.Acceleration – a change in either the speed or the direction of an object

  5. The person behind force ! Sir Isaac Newton Who is Isaac Newton? http://gardenofpraise.com/ibdnewt.htm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XJkvMyupds&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YE1dOtHl8pM&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHtqDnIKm7s&feature=related

  6. Force: Push or Pull What forces do? A force is anything that changes in motion. If force ( push or pull)is applied on any objects it can : • Change its speed and direction ( acceleration) • Stop moving • Slow down ( deceleration e.g. you apply the brakes or you go uphill) • Twist or change its shape ( sometimes the change is permanent but sometimes it bounce back) • The size

  7. EXAMPLE: An object that is not being pushed or pull by some force will stay still or will keep moving in a straight line at a steady speed Example. A bicycle will not move unless someone will push or pull it

  8. EXAMPLE If a force acted on an object it will change its speed and direction

  9. Activity: • Venn diagram activity Student’s task: http://www.firstschoolyears.com/science/forces/forces.html ( visit this website)
