  5. Use the 8 step ATTACK PLAN. Sequence?

  6. 1. The Prompt • 2. Narrative Story • 3. Expository Text • 4. Crossover • 5. Examine the visual • 6. Back to the Draft • 7. Turn in Dictionary • 8. Revising and editing

  7. 1. The Prompt UNDERSTAND. (dictionary) Personalize: ? to yourself THINK, THINK, THINK ORGANIZE WRITE a draft. (First person, details.)

  8. Let’s talk about how to get a four on the ESSAY!

  9. The essay is where you show off your writing talents. • Read the prompt at least twice! • Use your dictionary.

  10. Be sure to answer EXACTLYwhat they are asking. (Watch for the sneaky second part.) It is usually asking you to explain WHY something is important. What is your most boring class in high school and how would you change the curriculum to make it more interesting.

  11. So……. Do you agree or disagree with the statement???? Why?

  12. Now think of a Personal Experience that is an example of your agreement or disagreement of the prompt.

  13. NEXT>>>> Write a thesis statement Then an OUTLINE STEP 1 STEP 2

  14. NEXT>>>> Begin writing the BODY of your essay ---the experience that proves your opinion. • Now tell why it happened • How it happened • How it ended STEP 3

  15. Whew!! That’s a lot of rough draft writing.

  16. When the body is done….. HOOK your reader! • Add an INTRODUCTION that will knock their socks off!! • Begin with dialogue • Introduce a character • Give a description or background

  18. I found the corpse this morning. We’d been searching for two weeks. I’m glad its over. It’s amazing how it all started.

  19. Here’s what really happened…(boring, boring, boring) Two weeks ago my sister’s hamster escaped from her room. I thought the cat ate it. We searched the entire house. Finally, my mom found it behind the dryer. This was one adventure I’ll never forget!!

  20. Were you hooked? Be sure to write a story that captures the attention of the reader.

  21. It could be just one or two sentences. Don’t forget the conclusion.

  22. Here are some suggestions: • Reiterate how you feel about the subject • Make a prediction • Explain what you learned from the experience • Use a universal word: all, everyone, every day, every time • Circle back to the “hook” • Draw a conclusion from the example

  24. Add some details to your story……….. For example === here’s a sentence. The man walked to the store.

  25. Which man? How did he go? Where did he go? Why did he go? The crazy, old man walked to the store.

  26. The crazy, old man pushed his cart to the store. The crazy, old man pushed his cart to the 7-11 so that he could buy a lottery ticket.

  29. AFTER YOUR DRAFT Set it aside. Let it rest while you work on the stories. This gives you chances to think.

  48. 8. Revising and Editing SCAN the passage READ and highlight sentences to be considered READ ENTIRE passage Answer questions.
