  • Disaster prevention measures have major shortcomings

  • Capacity shortcomings in emergency services (prime responders to disasters)

  • Failure to include disaster prevention in integrated development planning

  • Inability of DM Centres to address specific threats


Recommendations

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Clear guidelines for the conducting of risk assessments to be developed

  • Disaster risk reduction measures to be included in IDPs

  • Full investigation into the readiness of emergency services to be conducted and a strategy to be developed in order to address the identified shortcomings
