U1-L14 February 19, 2008 Get out a clean sheet of notebook paper. • Looking at your first drawing and drawing folder, describe in complete sentences what you need to improve on in future floor plan drafting. • Take a couple minutes to study for a quiz Comment Key: • LW = Line Weight is incorrect • LWC = Line Weight Consistency needs work • LQ = Line Quality is poor • M = Measurements are incorrect • MC = Missing Component of floor plan • FH = Free Hand drawing (DON’T do it)

  2. U1-L14 QUIZ Complete on the same sheet of paper as the drill: • Describe how you would begin drawing a floor plan that is 30’-0” left-to-right by 22’-0” front-to-back. Begin with squaring the paper down, and conclude with the drawing of both sides of the exterior walls. • Identify the dimensions of the following floor plan components in this class: exterior walls, interior walls, exterior doors, interior doors, door jambs. • Identify the line types and weights in the drawing below: E B C D A

  3. U1-L14 RULES • ALL LINES BEGIN AS LAYOUT LINES. Draw them as far across the paper as you’ll need them. • You should only erase layout lines if you’ve made a measuring mistake. Otherwise, the lines are light enough to not be seen. • PULL pencil, don’t PUSH • Keep pencil SHARP • Any others?

U1-L14 STEPS • Square your paper • Draw Border (light) – 2’-0” from paper edges • Draw Title Block • 2’-0” from bottom border (light) • Three 0’-6” lettering guidelines (light) • Vertical spacers (medium): 8’-0”, 14’-0”, 10’-0”, 6’-0” • Scale, Drawing Name, Your Name, Date, Period • Darken border lines (very heavy) • You’ve now got: • Drawing Space • Title Block

U1-L14 STEPS • Find the center of drawing space (light) • Lay out extents of floor plan (light) • Lay out exterior walls (light) – 0’-6” • Lay out interior walls (light) – 0’-5” • Lay out doorways and windows (light) • Interior Doors = 2’-6” • Exterior Doors = 3’-0” • Jams = 0’-2” • Double-check all measurements • Darken all walls with object lines (heavy) • Complete fixtures and furniture (medium)
