  5. What paths have we already taken? • Vocabulary Quiz 1—Last Friday • Prepared for vocabulary quiz 2—Quiz Tomorrow • Began reviewing paragraph structure--MEL • Established our Writing Territories

Vocabulary: Arming ourselves with powerful words • Focus: Roots • Rational: Research indicates that if a student knows the root of a word then he or she will be better able to determine the meaning of words that might be foreign to them • This strategy will allow them to work with more difficult texts as well as aid them on standard tests such as the ACT and SAT • The roots are cumulative in nature—Each week’s root needs to be closely reviewed for assessment purposes.

  7. What tools will be needed to achieve epic literature and writing hero status? • Adventurous Spirit • Ability to think Critically • Motivation to Succeed • Arsenal of Literary Weapons • Perseverance

  9. Assessment • Evolving as writers—The majority of assessments will be in the form of written analysis, reflection, synthesis… • Total points will be accumulated • Each quarter = 45%, semester exam = 10% • Learning is paramount for a successful journey.
