  1. Fibromyalgia and Chinese Medicine Jane first began feeling exhausted and uncomfortable about 5 years ago, not too long after she lost her mother, with whom she was very close. Jane was active and a generally sociable person so she did not make much of it initially, as it was not significantly interfering with her quality of life. After a few months, her sleep quality kept deteriorating, her malaise had started to become more and more painful and she also began to develop increasing digestive distress. Realizing that this was not going to resolve on its own she went to her primary care MD to figure out what was wrong with her. This was a little over 3 years ago. Jane came into my office about 6 months ago. She needed assistance from her daughter to perform even the smallest tasks - filling out paperwork, walking into the treatment room, discussing her symptoms. What I had learned is that over the past 3 years she had seen about 7 specialists and had spent about $50,000 in treatments. She was finally given a diagnosis of fibromyalgia, a diagnosis of exclusion. The cause of fibromyalgia is unknown, and there are no conclusive diagnostic tests to confirm it. In fact, it can be so elusive that some practitioners do not recognize it as an actual disorder and may dismiss the

  2. symptoms as psychosomatic (ie. “all in your head”). The most common symptoms include widespread pain, chronic fatigue, Best Acupuncture in Potomac disturbances and a deterioration of mental health. The 5 types of pain that are generally experienced are: wandering pain, heavy pain, burning and electric nerve pain, sharp stabbing pain, and a dull achy pain. The fatigue is exacerbated by a generalized immune response and insomnia. The gut dysbiosis contributes to both the IBS-like (irritable bowel syndrome) digestive disturbances and the deterioration of mental health. Fibromyalgia is a complex syndrome of multi-system dysfunction, which is why it is so difficult to pinpoint an intervention. A generalized immune response is stimulated, giving a feeling of malaise and weakness. The digestive system is overrun by dysbiosis, which also affects neurotransmitter balance in the central nervous system. The circulatory system weakens, contributing to circulatory insufficiency. The nervous system and organs begin to deteriorate due to lack of circulation and nutrients. Inflammation persists systemically. Finally, the endocrine system becomes imbalanced due to the molecular mimicry of the dysbiosis, and the insufficiency of the other systems. It is very easy to see why this mufti-dimensional syndrome has stumped the specialists. The wisdom of Chinese Medicine Near Me lies in its perspective of the individual as a whole being of interconnected physiological systems. In other words, Rehabilitation Center in Maryland is able to determine not only WHAT is wrong, but WHY it is wrong. Understanding the WHY is critical to truly address any issue at its root. This informs the most effective and efficient methods of intervention. The tools of Chinese medicine are uniquely tailored to its holistic perspective. Best Acupuncture in Wheaton MD helps increase circulation and reduce inflammation (among many other physiological responses) by regulating the distribution of nitric oxide (NO) and other gasotransmitters. Botanical herbs have countless therapeutic effects, depending on their specific combination and doses. They regulate the distribution of gasotrasmitters, balance the microbiome, stimulate gene expression, help balance the endocrine and nervous systems, improve circulatory insufficiency and so much more.

  3. Finally, Gasotransmitter therapy can directly affect the distribution of gasotransmitters by harnessing the power of the breath. At Wise Wellness we have collaborated with the most successful specialists to develop an evidence based protocol to address every system affected by fibromyalgia and similar syndromes. This protocol includes an educational component that allows for self-care to help prevent relapse. By going through this protocol and empowering the patient to take an active roll in their well-being, we have seen a success rate of 80%! Success is defined as reduction in the intensity and frequency of symptoms to a degree that significantly improves quality of life. Six months ago, Jane came to my office a hopeless woman. Today, she is virtually pain free, has more energy and has accomplished her goal of being social with her friends again! She continues to maintain the progress she has made with her exercises and botanical medications and is finally happy again. One of the best aspects of this program is that it can be done remotely via tele-medicine, in case you are unable to come into the office or live too far away. Contact us now to schedule your complimentary consultation to determine if you are a good fit for the program and we can answer any questions you may have. Wise Wellness Yaron Cohen, L.Ac., Dipl.OM.
