  3. Food Groups There are five different food groups that we should focus on when we eat meals: • Fruits • Vegetables • Grains • Protein • Dairy

  4. Focus on Fruits! • Cherries are part of the Fruits food group. • Fruits are an important part of a healthy, balanced diet. • Try to fill half of your plate with fruits and vegetables for each meal.

  6. Tart Cherries Most tart cherries are used for cooking and baking. • Pies • Cobblers • Jams

  7. Sweet Cherries • The majority of sweet cherries are eaten fresh. • The remaining sweet cherries are canned, frozen, dried, or processed into juice. • Idaho grows several varieties of sweet cherries.

  9. Cherry Nutrition Cherries contain many important nutrients: • vitamin A • vitamin C • fiber • potassium

  12. Idaho Cherry Production • Idaho is one of the top 5 producers of sweet cherries in the United States. • Idaho’s average cherry production is about 4,000 tons of cherries per year. • Canyon, Washington, Payette, Gem, and Owyhee counties are the top cherry producers in Idaho.
