MVA 2/3 Mrs. Varnado’s Class - Week #33 Bo Varnado May 2014 Calendar: Field Trips: Zoo 5/5, Archeological Ctr 5/16, Eagle Peak Mine 5/30 Thursday, May 8thMVA Program 2:30 PM in the library Saturday, May 10th Mother/Daughter Tea End of Year Dates: 5/14 Transition Meeting First to Second Grade 5/20 – 5/22 Last Week of Class 5/27 Book Check In/Work Logs Due 5/28 K-7 End of Year Celebrations Dear Parents • This past week, some families did not submit all of the daily writing with the work logs. Remember ,writing is a daily activity and evidence needs to be turned in. I am including the Novel Tie writing ideas again this week for you to use as prompts if needed. The Novel Ties explore many language arts concepts using novels as a springboard. Please use your creativity as a teacher to explore concepts from the novels in your writing activities. Your child needs to write every day in addition to the worksheets that are included in the Novel Tie. Ideas you might use to prompt the writing assignments include: • Summarize the chapter that you read today making sure to tell about what happened in an organized way that includes the beginning, middle, and end. • The main character encountered a problem today in the story. Write about what you think will happen next. • Write about the problem from the novel and how it was solved. • Describe your favorite character and tell why you like him/her. • Please ask if you need more prompts • or ideas and make sure that your • child writes at least one paragraph (6 • to 8 sentences- 2nd grade) or three • paragraphs (third grade) daily. Some • days can be spent pre writing or re • writing for a final draft. This daily • writing is one of the most important • things you can do to ensure your • child’s academic success! • Bo Math Tests: Grade 2: 5/6/14 Chapter 13 re-test 5/20/14 Chapter 14 test Grade 3: 5/8/14 Unit # 9 re-test MAP math on Wednesday this week. Retest is for all students in grade 2 or 3 who did not score 80% or above on the free response test or at least 85% on a multiple choice retake version. Some parents also opt for multiple retakes for extra practice regardless of the score. We are teaching for mastery and these tests are to guide our instruction. Please try to lower the pressure on your kids. These are not “high stakes” tests. Wednesday-only students and those absent on regular test days will test on Wednesday.
