TCP: Transmission Control Protocol • breaks files and messages into individual packages for transmitting. • verifies each package upon receiving, requests retransmission if needed, acknowledges (handshake) packages received, • reassembles the files or messages from multiple packages it receives. IP: Internet Protocol • Work in harmony with TCP to assign IP addresses to each package • route each individual package to the destination IP address on the internet using best path/algorithm at transmission time InternetWWWProtocolsSecurity & ReliabilityProgramming
