CERTIFIED TRAFFIC GUIDELINES • The basic methodologies for developing certified design traffic are NOT changing. • However, there are continuous improvements to the process, such as the development of this manual and maintaining electronic copies of all certified design traffic. CERTIFIED TRAFFIC GUIDELINES This Consultant Assisted Effort Includes: • A Manual of Procedures • A “FAQ” added to the Modeling & Forecasting website • A Training Course • Revised Customer Agreements with the District Offices • A New Request Form March 15, 2007 Ohio Travel Demand Model Users Group

  4. Manual of Procedures • The Certified Traffic Manual will be a reference guide for • Persons requesting certified traffic • Persons preparing traffic for certification. • Persons using certified traffic. March 15, 2007 Ohio Travel Demand Model Users Group

Manual of Procedures • Focus on design designations, and will also include: • OTDMUG’s “Use of Models for Project Traffic Forecasting”. • turning movement forecasting techniques • model post-processing techniques • standards for traffic counts • references to other data sources, such as the Access Management Manual, ODOT Traffic Monitoring Reports (seasonal factors, etc.) March 15, 2007 Ohio Travel Demand Model Users Group

Frequently Asked Questions • A quick reference guide regarding the certified traffic process. • Will include definitions of common design factors (K, D, T24, TD, 8th highest hour) • Will include references to other needed resources (traffic count data, NCHRP 255, etc.) March 15, 2007 Ohio Travel Demand Model Users Group

Training Course • Similar to Traffic Academy Courses • 4-8 hours in duration • Focus on design designations, not “complex” projects – although these will be mentioned for comparison purposes. • Course materials will include examples of worksheets used to prepare certified traffic. • Pilot course expected by June 2007 (Targeting District Staff and Consultants) March 15, 2007 Ohio Travel Demand Model Users Group

Update Customer Agreements • Most agreements haven’t been updated for 7-8 years. • Allow for electronic correspondence, instead of hard copies. • Electronic copies of any traffic not prepared by OTS (i.e., if consultant prepared traffic for certification) March 15, 2007 Ohio Travel Demand Model Users Group
